Art In America

“Equations of Sight-Similarity”

at On Stellar Rays,
1 Rivington St.

This group show is a joint curatorial effort between Candice Madey of On Stellar Rays and Sunny Rahbar, co-founder of Dubai's The Third Line Gallery and experimental art collaborative Sun/Ra, named, of course, for the avant-garde musician who also provides the show with its title (taken from an excerpt of a Sun Ra poem). The works explore differing perspectives on space and time, including highlights like Nate Boyce's digital rendering of an amorphous, shifting form, displayed on a LCD screen mounted on a silvery metal rack, and Hajra Waheed's series of videos embedded in painstakingly crafted wooden boxes, each showing a mostly empty but still oddly captivating interior or landscape scene.
