Art In America

Lucien Smith

at Suzanne Geiss Company,

76 Grand St, New York, NY 10013

Lucien Smith pays homage to the grit and dirt of his city in A Clean Sweep at Suzanne Geiss Company. Walking through a room-sized installation of freestanding brooms feels like navigating the set of a grimy, urban version of a Disney musical. In an adjacent gallery, gum-spotted sidewalks and muddy mounds of snow are documented in a series of Polaroids, organized and displayed in Becher-esque taxonomies.
