Art In America

Matthew Ronay

at Andrea Rosen,
544 W. 24th St.

When Andrea Rosen opened a second space in 2012, down the block from her main gallery, the goal was to present more experimental  projects, as well as to highlight lesser-known aspects of artists' oeuvres. "Wavelength" satisfies the latter objective: though he's known for sculptural installations—Matthew Ronay's last show here offered a handmade papier-mâché and wood forest—these 100 gouache drawings, which loosely depict the human respiratory system in rich pink and purple tones, are as delicate and introspective as the artist's installations are bold and immersive.
