Art In America

Nicole Cherubini

at Tracy Williams,
521 W 23 St

Nicole Cherubini's first solo show with the gallery (in the past she's shown elsewhere with fellow sculptor Taylor Davis as Davis, Cherubini) includes nine floor sculptures and five wall-mounted pieces in materials like terra-cotta, glazed earthenware, wood and MDF. The combination of glazed ceramics with the painted wood structures they are encased in or accompanied by creates a satisfying push-pull between flatness and depth, spontaneity and  deliberation.
