Frieze New York kicked off its 2013 edition with a mix of art from more than 180 galleries representing 32 countries, a sculpture park that featured a dozen artists (including notable pieces by the young Fiona Connor and Nick van Woert and provocateur Paul McCarthy) and a selection of engaging sound works and projects-both inside and outside the fair's massive tent.

Galleries in the Frame section of the Frieze were required to exhibit only one artist, but established galleries also followed that lead, with David Zwirner showing an overview of Thomas Ruff's work, Team Gallery presenting new photographs by Ryan McGinley, McCaffrey Fine Art highlighting three installations by Jack Early, and Luhring Augustine turning over its booth to sculptures by Tom Freidman.

Curators and collectors clogged the booths and aisles, and throngs of visitors lined up at the fair's seven restaurants, including Food, a tribute to the 1971 SoHo project by Gordon Matta-Clark and Carol Goodden.
