May 21, 2014 @ High Line Hotel
Five hundred architecture and design luminaries attended the spring party for New York's Van Alen Institute last night at the High Line Hotel. In attendance were architects such as Elizabeth Diller, Charles Renfro and Toshiko Mori, and art-world figures such as Swiss Institute director Simon Castets, P! founder Prem Krishnamurthy and dealer Frederieke Taylor. Australian synth pop artist White Prism performed; DJ and sound artist Maria Chavez took over the entertainment at the afterparty.
The party kicked off an online benefit auction in which the Institute is offering 30 experiences, including a Milanese dinner at home with Museum of Modern Art head of R&D Paola Antonelli (bid up to $1,600 at time of writing); a helicopter ride with photographer Iwan Baan on a photo shoot (currently at $2,000); and breakfast with supercurator Hans Ulrich Obrist (now $3,000). There are no bids as yet on a workshop with Dutch trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort (starting bid $10,000).
The experiences are being auctioned off through 3 p.m., May 23, at Paddle 8.
Founded in 1894, the Van Alen Institute is dedicated to advancing innovation in architecture and urban design.
