Today the National Endowment for the Arts announced $26.3 million in grants to 817 institutions across the country. The NEA's Art Works grants facilitate creation, public involvement, and learning in the arts.

About $8.24 million in grants were awarded to New York arts institutions. Grants can be used for a variety of programs and purposes such as art making, education, and promoting diversity in the arts.

Art21 Inc., creator of the popular PBS series, received two separate $100,000 grants to fund both the production of season seven and its accompanying educational materials.

The Public Art Fund received an award of $35,000 to fund temporary public art installations and exhibitions.
