Museum MARTA Herford Announces New Prize

Germany's Museum MARTa Herford, opened in 2005, will offer a new biannual art prize, the Marta Prize. The winner will be commissioned to create a work of art for Marta's permanent collection that connects with the museum's themes of art, design, architecture and industry in the Herford region. The award also carries a prize sum of $50,000 to be put toward producing the commissioned work.

Will Barnet Dies, Age 101

Painter, printmaker, and teacher Will Barnet died Tuesday at the age of 101 at his Manhattan home, the New York Times reports. His death was announced by Philippe Alexandre, owner of Alexandre Gallery, which represented him.

Paris Photo Heads West

Paris Photo has announced the launch of Paris Photo Los Angeles, the European fair's first international extension, in April 2013.

With the fair's success in Europe over the past 16 years, Paris Photo director Julien Frydman said in a press release, "Now is the time to bring Paris Photo to the U.S., and Los Angeles is the ideal city in which to launch. Not only is Los Angeles home to the creation of moving images, but the city also boasts a rich history of visual iconography."

Leslie-Lohmann Names Hunter O'Hanian as its First Director

The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, the first and only LGBT art museum in the world, announced today that Hunter O'Hanian will become the museum's first director since its inception in 2011. O'Hanian will resume that role this month and will also serve as executive director of the Leslie/Lohman Gay Art Foundation.

Peggy Loar Resigns as NMQ Director

After four years with the National Museum of Qatar (NMQ), Peggy Loar will resign from her position as director, the Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) announced today. Loar will leave in November, but QMA has yet to appoint a successor. The museum is currently being renovated by Jean Nouvel and is scheduled to reopen in 2014.
