MoMA Appoints Paola Antonelli Director of Research and Development

The Museum of Modern Art has appointed Paola Antonelli director of research and development, effective immediately. Antonelli, senior curator of architecture and design, is an 18-year MoMA veteran. In her newly created role, Antonelli will evaluate new initiatives and identify unexplored opportunities for the museum, particularly in the digital realm. She will divide her time equally between the department of architecture and design and her new position.

Sotheby's Will Offer a Bacon Pope

One of Francis Bacon's iconic Pope paintings will appear at Sotheby's contemporary art evening sale in New York on Nov. 13. Untitled (Pope), from circa 1954, is part of the artist's series of screaming Popes painted in the wake of the Second World War. The painting has been in a private collection since a 1975 auction at Sotheby's. Earlier this year, Bacon's Figure Writing Reflected in Mirror (1977) sold for $44.9 million. Untitled (Pope) is expected to go for $18/25 million.

Anne-Imelda Radice Named Director of American Folk Art Museum

 Anne-Imelda Radice has been appointed director of the American Folk Art Museum in New York. She replaces former museum director Maria Ann Conelli, who left the museum in July 2011 after six years to become founding dean of Brooklyn College.
 
"We are incredibly excited to have Anne as our new director," said Monty Blanchard, president of the Board of Trustees, in a press release. "We believe she is the ideal person to lead us."

The collaboration between the Aspen Art Museum and Aspen Skiing Company continues for its eighth year with work by two artists: limited-edition lift tickets featuring artwork by UK artist David Shrigley and a site-specific installation by L.A.-based artist Dave Muller.

Hans Josephsohn, 1920-2012

Zurich-based sculptor Hans Josephsohn has died at 92. The artist is known for his hefty, roughhewn sculptures of the human figure, monumental and contemplative works often made of plaster. In his own words, his work with the human body signifies that in which "everything is expressed."
