Kusama Leaves Gagosian, Joins David Zwirner

Rumors of Yayoi Kusama leaving the Gagosian Gallery to join the Zwirner empire are now confirmed. In the third departure from the Gagosian stable in two months, Kusama announced that "after five years of working together," she and the Gagosian Gallery have "reached an amicable decision to end their partnership," according to The New York Times.

Kate Nesin will join the Art Institute of Chicago as associate curator of contemporary art. She will work closely with James Rondeau, the curator of contemporary art, to develop original exhibitions, build the museums' collection of contemporary art and foster innovative partnerships in Chicago and other locations.

Burhan Dogancay Has Died

Turkish artist Burhan Doğançay passed away on Jan. 15 at the age of 83. According to Bergin Azer, director of the Doğançay Museum in Istanbul, the artist was being treated at that city's American Hospital for an undisclosed illness when he died.

Man Sentenced for Vandalizing Rothko Painting

The verdict is in. Wlodzimierz Umaniec, also known as Vladi­mir Umanets, has been sentenced to two years in jail for vandalizing a Mark Rothko painting on view at Tate Modern, London. This morning at the Inner London Crown Court, Judge Roger Chapple cited Umaniec's actions as "entirely deliberate, planned and intentional."

NYFA Emergency Relief Funds Available for Artists Affected by Sandy

The New York Foundation for the Arts' (NYFA) Emergency Relief Fund is now available for artists living in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut affected by Hurricane Sandy. The fund is established by The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, the Andy Warhol Foundation and the Lambent Foundation and has been helped by the contributions of universities, individual artists and non-profit organizations that held fundraisers or benefits.
