For the first time in its 187-year history, the National Academy has included photographers and video and performance artists among its annual nominees, to be formally inducted this evening. Until 2011, only those falling under the painting, sculpture, printmaking and architecture umbrella were eligible to be voted into the Academy.

The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami has hired New York-based independent curator, writer and editor Alex Gartenfeld in the newly created position of curator. Gartenfeld is currently senior editor of A.i.A. and Interview magazine online. He will assume his new post in May, reporting to Bonnie Clearwater, who, in addition to being the museum's director, also serves as chief curator. Read More
