
Italian Massimiliano Gioni has been appointed director of the 2013 Venice Biennale. The seemingly omnipresent 39-year-old is associate director of the New Museum in New York and artistic director of the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi in Milan. He will maintain these responsibilities.

The cult design emporium Moss in SoHo will close on Feb. 17. Opened by Murray Moss in 1994, the store elevated product design to high art through museum-style displays and thematic exhibitions. The store's website says, "The shop intentionally looks and feels like a museum, with everything locked behind glass or raised onto platforms. It's cold. It's white. The music is tense. The selling staff wear dark monotone clothing."

The sprawling multibillion-dollar cultural development on Saadiyat Island is moving forward, according to a statement that appeared today on the website of Abu Dhabi's executive council. Two of the projects slated for the island-outposts of the Guggenheim and the Louvre-were put on hold last October as Abu Dhabi's economy foundered. Saadiyat Island is being developed by the Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), of the United Arab Emirates.

Ruba Katrib has been hired as curator of New York's SculptureCenter, effective Feb. 15. For the past four years she has been with the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), North Miami, first as assistant and then associate curator. There she worked closely with director Bonnie Clearwater on exhibition planning.

Founded by the late Linda Pace, daughter of the Pace picante sauce company founders, Artpace has a robust exhibition and international residency program, attracting such artists as Maurizio Cattelan, Wangechi Mutu, Christian Jankowski and Cornelia Parker.
