D'Amelio Terras Gallery to Close

New York's D'Amelio Terras Gallery will soon close its doors after 15 years in business. In a conversation with A.i.A., Christopher D'Amelio said that he will establish a new gallery at the same 22nd Street location, while his business partner, Lucien Terras, will form a separate, private venture.

The gallery's international program spans established figures including Polly Apfelbaum, Roland Flexner, Joanne Greenbaum, Robert Moskowitz and Cornelia Parker as well as younger artists such as Chloe Piene, Dario Robleto and Heather Rowe. Some artists they have worked with have gone on to greater prominence, including Tony Feher and Glenn Ligon.

Founded in 1996, the gallery was among the early movers to West Chelsea. D'Amelio, a New York City native, started his career with PaceWildenstein. Terras, raised in Paris, worked previously at the Fondation Cartier and Galerie Yvon Lambert. From 1992 to 1996, both D'Amelio and Terras worked at the Paula Cooper Gallery in New York.

D'Amelio characterized the split as "amicable" and "a mature decision." More details will be released in a statement about the split and the new businesses after the new year.
