Jose Roca Appointed Adjunct Curator at the Tate

In its effort to broaden the geographic scope of its collection, London's Tate has appointed Colombian curator José Roca (b.1962) as adjunct curator of Latin American art. Based in Bogotá, the 49-year-old will work with the Tate for a three-year period.

The widely published curator is a familiar face on the international biennial circuit. His credentials include being chief curator of the 2011 Bienal do Mercosul in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and co-curator of the 2006 Bienal de São Paulo and the Encuentro de Medellín MDE07 (2007). For 10 years he was the manager of art programs and the collection at the Banco de la República in Bogotá. In 2010, he served as artistic director of the citywide print triennial Philagrafika in Philadelphia.

Among the exhibitions he has curated for various institutions are those on Oscar Muñoz, Antoni Muntadas and Miguel Ángel Rios.
