Walker Hires Curator of Public Practice

Sarah Schultz, of Minneapolis's Walker Art Center, has a new title: director of education and curator of public practice. Formerly the director of education, a position she has held since 2000, Schultz has recently helped run several initiatives designed to facilitate the museum's efforts to engage the city's public.

In 2010, Schultz helped organize the Walker's "Open Field" program, a series of over 100 events held throughout the summer in a four-acre field adjacent to the museum. In this space, meant to be an alternative to a traditional public park, museum-goers and artists-in-residence came together to create new forms of socially-engaged art practice. In her role as curator of public practice, Schultz will continue to collaborate with artists, as well as interested members of the general public, on a variety of projects that highlight contemporary art's impact on the public sphere.
