Huntington Appoints New Director

Kevin Salatino was today named incoming director of the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, Calif. Currently director of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in Brunswick, Me., Salatino will assume the new post in July. He replaces John Murdoch, who has served as Huntington director for a decade.

Salatino is returning to the West Coast, having been curator and head of the department of prints and drawings at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art from 2000 to 2009, after a stint as curator of graphic arts at the Getty Research Institute.

He was named director of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in 2009. During his three-year tenure, he supervised reinstallation of the museum's permanent collection and oversaw exhibitions such as "Edward Hopper's Maine" and the upcoming "William Wegman: Hello Nature."

The New England native holds a BA from Columbia University and a doctorate in art history from the University of Pennsylvania.
