Artworks Hit the Aspen Slopes

The collaboration between the Aspen Art Museum and Aspen Skiing Company continues for its eighth year with work by two artists: limited-edition lift tickets featuring artwork by UK artist David Shrigley and a site-specific installation by L.A.-based artist Dave Muller.

The lift tickets will feature six distinct artworks by Shrigley, whose monochromatic, cartoonlike drawings combining images and text offer a sense of immediacy and humor with such statements as "You're doing O.K.", as if to encourage skiers insecure about their abilities. Defeating the purpose of a lift ticket, another reads, "Don't show this to anyone." Past seasons' lift tickets have featured artworks by artists such as Yutaka Sone, Peter Doig and Karen Kilimnik.

A DJ and musician as well as visual artist, Muller will create a wall painting for the new restaurant at Elk Camp at Snowmass. It will be based on a questionnaire asking Aspen Skiing Company employees for their top 10-favorite albums and their height, and will be accompanied by a playlist that will run for an entire year without repeating a song.
