Martha Colburn to Horton Gallery

New York's Horton Gallery has announced that it will represent New York- and Amsterdam-based artist Martha Colburn.

Colburn is a filmmaker, animator and multimedia artist who employs a variety of techniques, including puppetry and collage, to create hallucinatory, fast-paced works laden with disturbing imagery, often sexual and violent. She often collaborates with musicians to create the soundtracks.

Colburn will have her first solo exhibition with the gallery, "Camera, lights, charge, Pop!" Sept. 28-Nov. 4 in its new Lower East Side location. The Horton show will be Colburn's largest to date, and will include a 90-minute program of about 30 films from the mid-1990s to the present. Also on view will be Polaroids and large collages.

The Pennsylvania-born Colburn (b. 1971) has been included in film festivals internationally, and last year had her film Dolls vs. Dictators on display at the Museum of the Moving Image, Queens, N.Y., as well as having works included in the 2005 Whitney Biennial and "The Dissolve," the 2010 SITE Santa Fe Biennial, among other museum shows.
