With Larger Gallery and Daytime Hours, Night Gallery Grows Up

Los Angeles's Night Gallery, known for its unorthodox late-night hours, will move to a new downtown location come January 2013. Run by artist Davida Nemeroff and dealer Mieke Marple, Night Gallery has offered a blend of artistry and nightlife to Angelenos since early 2010.

The current location, at 204 S. Ave 19, will close shop Dec. 19. Night Gallery's new home, at 2276 E. 16th St., is scheduled to open at the end of January 2013. A press release from the gallery promises that the new space will expand upon the old "sixfold in volume" and "tenfold in parking." The gallery will add traditional daytime hours to its previously unconventional schedule of 10 P.M. to 2. A.M. Tuesdays through Thursdays. Architect Peter Zellner will design the new interior. A solo exhibition by Sean Townley will be the inaugural show.

Nemeroff founded the gallery shortly after moving to L.A. upon her graduation from Columbia University. At first, she stayed with friends in order to afford the $850 monthly rent on the three-room space, a former party supply store in a Lincoln Heights strip mall. The gallery has hosted work by Spencer Sweeney and Samara Golden. Night Gallery's next show features new work by Alika Cooper, opening Oct. 6.
