MoMA to Open Seven Days a Week

The Museum of Modern Art has announced that it will open its galleries to the public seven days a week beginning May 1, 2013. A tremendous increase of visitors is behind the decision.  In the eight years since MoMA's renovation and reopening in 2004, annual attendance has doubled from 1.5 million to 3 million.

Over the past two years MoMA has experimented with opening on Tuesdays, the day in which the museum is traditionally closed, during the summer and over holidays. Each extra Tuesday of operation brought in around 45,000 patrons.

MoMa had previously been open Monday through Sunday, from its creation in 1923 until 1975, when it closed one day a week to reduce costs.
