Duke's Nasher Museum Receives Five Million Dollar Gift

The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University has received $5 million from the Nasher/Haemisegger family. 

Nancy A. Nasher, the incoming chair of the Nasher Museum's board of advisors , and her husband David J. Haemisegger, who also serves on the board, have given the museum's largest single endowment since the museum's inception in 2005. The gift will create two new funds for the acquisition of modern art and a visiting curatorship.  Four million will go towards the Nancy A. Nasher and David J. Haemisegger Family Fund for Acquisitions, which will help the museum buy modern and contemporary art. The remaining $1 million will bolster the Nancy A. Nasher and David J. Haemisegger Family Visiting Curatorship Fund, permitting the museum to collaborate with leading scholars on special exhibitions.

This most recent donation marks over $16 million given to the Nasher Museum of Art by members of the Nasher/Haemisegger family.  Nancy's late father, Raymond D. Nasher, a 1943 Duke Graduate and the museum's founder, had previously donated $10 million for the new museum building.

In a press release, the museum's director, Kimerly Rorschach, said, "The Nasher/Haemisegger family has provided significant ongoing resources for building our collection and allowing us to deepen and broaden our curatorial expertise, which in turn permits us to expand our exhibition program and use our collection much more effectively."
