Bowdoin Museum Appoints Couple as Co-Directors
Frank H. Goodyear III and Anne Collins Goodyear have been named new co-directors of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Brunswick, Maine by Cristle Collins Judd, Bowdoin College's dean for academic affairs. The couple, married since 2000, both currently serve as curators at the National Portrait Gallery, Washington D.C. Anne, who is also president of the College Art Association, is an associate curator of prints and drawings, while Frank is the curator of photography.
Beginning June 2013, the Goodyears will institute a new management model in the museum by sharing some duties and splitting others. Their responsibilities will include overseeing the development of the museum's collections, exhibition programs and publications, and educational outreach in and outside of the Bowdoin community. As co-directors, the Goodyears will also perform operational functions, managing the staff, programs, strategic planning and budget of the museum.
In a press release, Judd praised the Goodyears' appointment, saying "As we have gotten to know Anne and Frank, we have been impressed with their passion and creativity, their vision of the special role that a college art museum can play, their commitment to the role of the arts in a liberal arts education, and their focus on the fundamental importance and relevance of art in all aspects of our lives."
