Haunch of Venison Gallery to Close

Haunch of Venison, an 11-year-old London gallery that has operated a New York outpost since September 2008, will cease to represent artists at the close of its current exhibitions in March, according to a statement from Christie's, which owns the gallery. The story was first reported in the Baer Faxt.

The gallery represented artists ranging from New York-based painters Brian Alfred and Ahmed Alsoudani to Dusseldorf-based multimedium artist Günther Uecker to the estate of Tom Wesselman. No one from the gallery could be reached immediately for comment.

Haunch of Venison will henceforth focus solely on secondary market sales.

Christie's purchased the gallery in 2007. Now in Chelsea, the New York gallery was formerly located in Rockefeller Center, along with the auction house.

The New York gallery will reportedly close, while the London facility will be used for private sales exhibitions.
