Art Basel Announces 2013 Exhibitors

Art Basel's flagship fair in Basel, Switzerland, opens its latest edition on June 13. This year brings 304 exhibitors, two less than last year's 306. Thirty-nine countries are represented at the fair, from Argentina to Norway to the United Arab Emirates. The most significant geographical jump is from the Asia/Pacific Islands region; this year 33 galleries are traveling to Basel from that area, up from 25 last year. There are 25 participants from New York, 8 from Los Angeles, 37 from London, 31 from Paris, 16 from Zurich and 7 Basel locals.

The fair's many subgroups—Statements, Unlimited, Feature, etc.—are also being reconfigured this year, thanks to renovations to the Messeplatz halls by Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron. Last year, the area of Hall 1 that housed the Statements sector and the auditorium will be taken over by Unlimited (a section of that fair that focuses on installations, film projections and performances), while Statements (solo projects by emerging artists), Magazines and the auditorium will move into the 27,000-square-foot extension.

The hub of Art Basel is the prestigious Galleries section, which this year accepted 238 exhibitors. Several galleries have been "upgraded" after having been previously included in other sectors, like Alison Jacques (London), kaufmann repetto (Milan) and McCaffrey (New York). New York's Howard Greenberg is making its first trip to Art Basel this year to show in the Galleries section.

Newcomers to Statements include 47 Canal (New York), Jessica Silverman (San Francisco) and the third line (Dubai), while Feature, which focuses on specially curated projects, hosts Marc Foxx (Los Angeles), Dirimart (Istanbul) and Mendes Wood (Sao Paolo) for the first time.
