Performa Launches Venice Biennale-Like Initiative

Performa has announced Pavilions Without Walls, a new program of multiyear collaborations with international artists. The initiative arranges collaborative projects that will be undertaken between Performa and artists from participating countries, and will premiere at the Performa 13 Biennial (Nov. 1–24). The commissioned works will focus on themes of cultural influence. Norway and Poland will be the inaugural participating nations.

Each of the pavilions will include a major new performance by an artist, co-commissioned by Performa; a collaborative project featuring several international artists, co-produced by Performa; 2 to 3 additional, smaller performance projects; invitations to curators, scholars and artists from participating countries to participate in the Performa Institute; and six to 18 months' professional training for two emerging artists from each nation. Participants will be announced at a later date, according to a press release from yesterday.
