Anselm Kiefer
Bolstered by his recent, expansive show at Gagosian Gallery in New York and a forthcoming presentation at the Venice Biennale, Anselm Kiefer stopped over in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. There, his triptych of enormous glass-and-steel vitrines containing castings of dried sunflowers and a supspended chair made reference to a Vincent van Gogh sketch. Indeed, they were installed side-by-side with Rembrandt's masterpiece of the Dutch Golden Age, The Night Watch. —PAUL LASTER
