Tommy Hartung

A trip to Tommy Hartung’s current show, which debuts his hour-long new film THE BIBLE in a setting punctuated with creepy sculptural pieces related to the film (and, at times, performers), is like visiting a subterranean alternative reality where the sun doesn’t shine and which has rules of its own. You may find yourself, in the gallery’s cold violet glow, sitting next to a silent and still man whom you might mistake for an audience member but for the plastic wrap around his face, as Hartung, in the film, brings the Old Testament into conversation with Wikileaks whistleblowers and self-immolating veterans.
