Frieze New York 2015 Exhibitor List Revealed

Frieze New York has announced the galleries that will show at the fourth edition of the fair (May 14-17, 2015). Nearly 200 galleries will participate, approximately the same number as last year. About 30 percent are from New York. Exhibitors hail from 33 countries and territories, from Austria and Estonia to Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates. Last year, about 40,000 people attended the fair.

Among those making their Frieze New York debut are Blum & Poe (Los Angeles and New York), Clearing (New York and Brussels), Freedman Fitzpatrick (Los Angeles), Pace (New York, London, Beijing, Menlo Park and Hong Kong) and Matthew Marks Gallery (New York and Los Angeles) along with New Yorkers JTT from the Lower East Side and blue-chip Upper East Side gallery Skarstedt.

As in previous years, the fair takes place under a large tent on Randall’s Island, on the East River. The Frieze art fair was founded in London in 2003; Frieze Masters launched in London in 2012 and is dedicate to art from ancient to modern.

Though art fairs are principally commercial affairs, Frieze was one of the first to class things up with sections organized by guest curators. At Frieze New York next year, in addition to the main galleries sector, a new section, Spotlight, will join the existing ones, Frame and Focus. Spotlight has been a feature of the Frieze London fair for three years. For the inaugural New York Spotlight, exhibitors will be chosen by independent curator Adriano Pedrosa and will show solo presentations of work made in the 20th century.

Frame consists of solo presentations by galleries less than eight years old; advisors on the section are Raphael Gygax (curator of the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Zurich) and Jacob Proctor (curator of the Neubauer Collegium for Culture and Society at the University of Chicago).
