Sotheby’s auction house has announced four high-level promotions: Alexander Rotter and Cheyenne Westphal have been named the worldwide heads of the contemporary art department, while Helena Newman and Simon Shaw have been appointed worldwide heads of the Impressionist and modern art department.
Rotter and Westphal replace Tobias Meyer, who parted ways with the auction house in November after twenty years with the company. The worldwide Impressionist and modern co-head post is a new position at Sotheby’s.
Previously Rotter, who joined the company in 2000, was head of contemporary art in the Americas, and Westphal, at Sotheby’s since 1990, served in that role for Europe. Similarly, Newman, a 25-year Sotheby’s veteran, held the top post for Impressionist and modern art in London, while Shaw, with the auction house since 1996, was that department’s New York head.
