The Museum Ludwig in Cologne has appointed Yilmaz Dziewior its new director, effective February 2015. Philipp Kaiser, the modern and contemporary art museum’s former director, resigned in February 2014 after only a year on the job; Katia Baudin is currently serving as acting director.
Dziewior has been director of Kunsthaus Bregenz in Austria since 2009; before that he was director of the Hamburg Kunstverein while also teaching art theory at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts. In April it was announced that Dziewior will curate the Austrian pavilion at the 2015 Venice Biennale. For three years in the late ‘90s, Dziewior was a freelance curator at the Museum Ludwig, where he worked on a project with Sarah Lucas and curated the contemporary portion of the exhibition “Art Worlds in Dialogue: From Gauguin to the Global Present.”
Dziewior has organized solo exhibitions of work by a range of international artists including Yael Bartana, Cosima von Bonin, Wade Guyton, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Gabriel Orozco and Danh Vo.
